Drive Against Illegal e-ticketing Conducted By RPF

Bhubaneswar: Railway Protection Force (RPF) of East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Thursday conducted a drive against illegal e-ticketing and touting activities. The ECoR conducted surprise raids at more than 20 places against such illegal activities in its jurisdiction covering the states of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Raids were conducted in Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Berhampur, Kantabanjhi, Rayagada in Odisha, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh) and Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh.

Railway officials said that the raids were conducted under ‘Operation Thunder’ which was launched across India as per the direction of Director General of RPF, New Delhi.

As many as19 cases were registered against 19 such illegal e-ticketing agents/touts by the ECoR. “They were arrested for prosecution under section 143 of the Railways Act. More than 700 railway e-tickets valued around Rs 15 lakh were seized. Besides modems, computers and other accessories worth more than Rs 5 lakh have also been seized,” said an official of ECoR.

Railway officials said that Information about fake and fictitious IDs and touts were procured and intelligence based recce was taken up before going to raid such locations. “Railway is committed for strong and sustained action against touting elements even in the future to ensure safe and hassle-free experience with Indian Railways,” added the official.
