Dreaded dacoit gang busted, 6 held in city

Bhubaneswar: Busting a dreaded dacoit gang, the Twin City Commissionerate Police arrested at least six persons conducting raids at several places in the city on Saturday.

The held dacoits have been identified as Umesha Chandra Sahu alias Mutura of Balianta, Lokanath Sahu alias Loka of Khordha, Pancham Saha of Badambadi and Rakesh Mohapatra of Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack along with Kunia Samal and Pabitra Mohan Mallick of Khuntuni.

A joint team of Commissionerate Police’s special squad and Infocity Police took part in the raid which started early in the morning following a tip-off on the presence of the gang and nabbed the accused.

Two Bajaj Pulsar and one TVS Apache bikes, one tab, a number of mobile phones, gold ornaments weighing 19 grams along with two toy pistols and a billhook were seized from the possession of the arrested members of the gang.

Police said the gang is involved in as many as five robbery incidents which took place under different police stations in Twin City including two under Balianta and one each under Infocity, Kandarpur and Choudwar police limits.

The held members of the gang would be forwarded to court today.
