Sambalpur: Tightening the noose around the necks of the history-sheeters in the district, Sambalpur Police today arrested wanted criminal Musim Akhtar alias Bitu following an encounter near the city railway station.
Acting upon a tip-off at around 5.20 am this morning, a joint team of Dhanupali Police and the special squad of Sambalpur Police conducted a raid near the railway station. During the raid Bitu tried to escape from the spot along with an aide and opened fire at the cops in the attempt injuring an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI).
As policemen retaliated with firing by exercising their right to self-defence Bitu sustained a bullet injury near his right knee to fell down. However, his aide managed to escape from the spot.
Police seized a 9MM pistol, one live bullet, a mobile phone and cash worth Rs 4,000 from the possession of the held criminal during the raid.
Bitu has been admitted to Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after his arrest.
He has over 15 criminal cases pending against him at different police station areas.
