Berhampur: Continuing with its crackdown on history-sheeters, the Berhampur Police succeeded in arresting dreaded criminal Mohan Rao following an encounter which took place in Jhadankuli area in the city last night.
A team of Berhampur Sadar Police raided Mohan’s hideout located in the city after getting a tip-off on his presence along with some aides late in the night. During the raid, cops found the accused busy in hatching a plan for another robbery and tried to nab him along with the aides. However, the aides managed to give police a slip and escaped from the spot.
Mohan, who opened fire at police was struck with bullets on both legs in return fire and was caught subsequently.
Sadar Police Station IIC and a Sub Inspector (SI) also sustained injury during the encounter as the accused hurled bombs at them.
The accused criminal and the policemen duo were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition is stated to be out of danger now.
Police said the arrested criminal has around 17 cases pending against him at various police stations in Ganjam district.
