Puri: Tightening the noose around the necks of history-sheeters in the religious town, Puri police nabbed dreaded criminal Dibana Behera last night following an encounter at Ashram Chhak under Kumbharapada police limits.
A joint team of Baselisahi police and Kumbharapada police conducted a raid on the criminal after getting a tip-off on his whereabouts at around 1.30 am in the night.
After finding the police team approaching him Diban who was planning to execute a ‘contract killing’ opened fire at the cops in a bid to escape. However, he sustained a bullet injury on his right leg after cops retaliated with firing exercising their right to defence.
Baseli Sahi IIC was wounded during the exchange of fire.
After arresting Dibana police seized one 9 mm pistol, one live ball ammunition, one magazine and one Yamaha Fazer bike from his possession.
The injured criminal was first rushed to Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and then shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack for treatment.
Dibana has around 26 criminal cases pending against him at different police station limits in the district, said police.
