Rayagada: A dreaded criminal was detained following an encounter with police here in Odisha in the wee hours of Monday.
The criminal, identified as Hadipa Siba, sustained bullet injuries in his left leg during the encounter.
Siba was initially admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here for treatment and later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Bases on a tip-off, a police team attempted to apprehend Siba around 4 AM during which he opened fire at the cops. In retaliation, the police too fired and Siba was hit in his leg.
Rigan Kindo, an SI of police, and Havildar Dilip Hota also sustained injury during the exchange of fire.
More than 50 criminal cases had been registered against Siba at different police stations in the state, police said.
