Puri: Continuing with its crackdown on wanted criminals in the district, Puri Police last night arrested notorious Bhagirathi Pradhan alias Bhagu following an encounter in Pipili area, in which he also sustained bullet injury.
Acting upon a tip-off on the whereabouts of Bhagu a team of cops launched a raid at Tarakarja Chhak near Pipili overbridge last night to capture him. However, the criminal opened fire at police in a bid to escape and sustained a bullet injury to his left leg in the return fire by cops.
Police also seized a motorcycle, one 9mm pistol, one live bullet from the possession of the held accused.
Bhagu has been admitted to SCB Medical in Cuttack for treatment due to the bullet injury.
The held history-sheeter has around 20 criminal cases pending against him at Kumbharpada, Puri Sadar, Chandanpur and Talabania police stations.
