Bhadrak: Dreaded criminal Bapi Pani was injured following an encounter with a team of police at Chhadheya village under Bhadrak Rural Police Station limits on Saturday.
Bapi Pani and his associate Om Prakash Mahalik were going on a motorcycle to conduct a robbery. However, a team of cops from the Bhadrak Rural Police Station, under the leadership of IIC Alok Jena waylaid them after getting inputs of the criminal’s motive from a reliable source.
Instead of stopping, the criminals started firing at the cops all of a sudden in a bid to escape from the spot. In retaliation, the police also opened fire at Bapi and Om Prakash following which Bapi sustained bullet injuries on both of his legs.
The dreaded criminal was admitted at the district headquarter hospital in a critical condition. Five cops including the IIC were also injured in the firing incident. They are also undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Cops also seized a gun from the possession of Bapi and arrested Om Prakash.
Sources said that more than 20 criminal cases are pending against Bapi at different police stations of Bhadrak district.
