Dowry Killing: Woman found dead at in-laws’ house, husband detained

Cuttack: Tension prevailed in Gagana village under Badamba block in Cuttack district last night after dead body of a woman was recovered from her in-laws house and her father alleged it to be a case of dowry killing.

The deceased has been identified as Satyabhama Behera (28), daughter of Paranabandhu Behera of Nuakeshari village.

As per the report, the victim who went to sleep after dinner last night was found dead this morning from her bedroom. Her in-laws claimed it to be a case of suicide and called up police following the incident.

However, after Satyabhama’s death news reached her parents, her father lodged a case of dowry killing at Badamba Police Station and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

“Her in-laws were torturing her to bring more dowry since long and we suspect that she had been killed over the same reason last night,” alleged the deceased’s uncle Pramod Behera.

“We have detained the husband of the victim for questioning and a case has been lodged against him under Sections 304 B, 302 and 498 (A) of IPC. Whether it is a case of homicide or suicide will be clear only after the completion of the autopsy,” said Gayanaranjan Mishra, IIC, Badamba.
