Double encounter in Odisha’s Kendrapara, 2 dreaded criminals nabbed

Kendrapara: Two dreaded criminals, who were involved in the murder of medicine store owner Gagan Sahoo last month, were nabbed following an encounter by a team of Marsaghai Police and special squad on on NH 5 A near Marshghai in Odisha’s Kendrapara district late last night.

The accused have been identified as Anant Prasad Jena alias Bhelu and Prabhat Nayak alias Mituna.

25-year-old Sahoo was shot dead near Hatia village under Marshaghai police limits on September 18, 2019.

Officials sources said, as many as 11 miscreants were involved in Sahoo’s murder. While nine other accused were earlier arrested, Bhelu and Mituna had been absconding following the incident .

On receiving information about the whereabouts of these criminals, the Special squad and Marshaghai police laid a trap in Marsaghai.

Seeing the cop, Bhelu opened fire at them in a bid to escape on NH 5 A. In retaliation, the police too fired which left the criminals injured. Bhelu sustained bullet injuries on his both legs while Mituna sustained bullet injury on one leg.

Both Bhelu and Mituna were rushed to Marsaghai hospital for their treatment and later shifted to the District Headquarter Hospital here.

Police said, over 10 criminal cases are pending against both the accused at different police stations in the State.
