Doctor In Odisha Suspended For Asking Patient To Purchase Injection From Outside

Bhubaneswar: The Health and Family Welfare Department today suspended a doctor posted in Balangir district for asking patient to purchase injection from outside.

The doctor Biju Agrawal is presently working as Consultant (Paediatric) at Sub Divisional Hospital in Patnagarh.

The matter came to light during a recent visit of health secretary Pramod Kumar Meherda to the hospital.

As per reports, Agrawal had prescribed an injection to a one-year-old child suffering from diarrhoea and had also asked the patient’s family to purchase injection from outside.

“With the disciplinary proceeding against Dr Agrawal contemplated, he has been placed under suspension. During the period of his suspension, Headquarters of Dr Agrawal shall be District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Bolangir,” read an order from the department.

 “Dr Agrawal shall not leave the Headquarters without obtaining the prior permission of the competent authority. Besides, he shall be entitled to the payment of subsistence allowance in accordance with Rule-90 of the Odisha Service Code” added the order.
