Athagarh: The Athagarh unit of BJP on Wednesday accused Tigiria block No.1 Zilla Parishad member Rasmita Mahalik of being a Ration Card beneficiary for the last two years and demanded her resignation.
The saffron party claimed that the BJD Zilla Parishad member had pocketed a ration card for herself two years ago while many poor people in the area are yet to get a Ration Card. She did not surrender it even after winning in the last Panchayat election and continues to corner all benefits meant for a poor person.
“Corruption is in the blood of BJD leaders. Earlier too, former Cuttack Mayor Anita Behera had to step down from her post for illegally pocketing a Ration Card. Later, she was suspended from the BJD. It is very unfortunate that while the real beneficiaries have been deprived of the government benefits, BJD Zilla Parishad member Rasmita Mahalik and her relatives have got the cards even now,” alleged Ram Naryan Mohanty, general secretary of Athagarh BJP.
Demanding Mahalik’s ouster and stringent action against her, the saffron party leader also sought the attention of the local BJD MLA into the matter.
“The local BJD MLA should look into the matter immediately. She should surrender the card and tender her resignation. An investigation must be initiated into the matter and stringent action should be taken against the Zilla Parishad member,” Mohanty added.
Mahalik, on the other hand, refuted the allegation terming it ‘political vendetta’ against her by her rivals.
“I have surrendered my Ration Card after winning the election. Their allegation is baseless and only meant to defame me and my party,” she said.
