Mayurbhanj: Proving that the government resolve to end Percentage Commission (PC) culture has had very little impact in the state, Baripada vigilance sleuths arrested a Gram Panchayat Technical Assistant (GPTA) while accepting a bribe from a Contractor in Arapata village on Saturday.
The arrested official has been identified as Arapata Panchayat GPTA Akshay Kumar Dash.
The accused GPTA came under the scanner of the anti-corruption body after Swarup Nayak, a contractor from the village, lodged a complaint against him at the Baripada Vigilance wing. Nayak, who has got a tender for construction of government quarters for Arapata Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) at a project cost of Rs 6.50 lakh recently, mentioned in his complaint that Dash was asking for 5% PC for the work. The GPTA was asking for Rs 10,000 initially to pass a running bill, he added.
Following the complaint, Baripada Vigilance sleuths hatched a plan and waited outside the residence of the contractor where the GPTA arrived to receive the PC amount on Saturday afternoon and nabbed him red-handed. The bribe amount was also recovered from the accused, who was forwarded to court on Sunday.
