Berhampur: An undertrial prisoner of Sorada Sub Jail died during treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here last night.
The deceased has been identified as Surya Gouda of Buguda village under Sorada Police limits in Ganjam district.
Surya, who had been nabbed by police on Saturday in connection to a murder case, developed sickness on Sunday night and was rushed to the Sorada Community Health Centre by the jail authority yesterday evening. He was shifted to MKCG Medical in Berhampur late in the night where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
However family members of the deceased have suspected foul play by police in the incident and demanded an impartial probe to reveal the truth.
“We suspect something fishy in the sudden death of Surya as he was absolutely fine at the time of arrest. Moreover, the jail authorities did not even feel necessary to inform us about his sickness. We want an investigation into the incident,” said a relative of the deceased undertrial, venting out his anger against the jail authority.
