Keonjhar: Residents of Tilapashi village of the Bansapala block in the district are in a state of panic and are spending sleepless nights for the last one week over frequent and mysterious incidents of stone pelting in the village. After failing to identify the miscreants, panicky people have now taken it to be an act of super natural forces and have turned to witchcraft and holding of tantric pujas in their houses to ward off the stone attacks.
Reports reaching here said some people of Tilapashi village lodged a complaint at the Banshapala Police Station on Thursday stating that some unidentified persons are resorting to stone pelting inside the village since a week leaving several villagers injured. Curiously, two constables of a police team that had gone to the village to conduct an inquiry after the complaint also got hit by the stones, but the police team failed to catch anybody.
Purna Chandra Palei, a resident of Tilapashi, said stones were being pelted in the village since 7-10 days. “We suspect it to be the handiwork of some miscreants. We decided to call the police after all our efforts to nab the culprits failed. Now that even the police have failed to trace the culprits, we are beginning to believe that it could be the work of some supernatural elements.
“Sometimes, stones weighing 1-2 kg are coming from the air and hitting the doors and windows of our houses randomly. At times, people are getting hurt by them. Now as we have taken it as an act of an invisible power, tantric pujas are being held inside our homes to expel the evil spirits,” Palei added.
Meanwhile, local police have started installing CCTV cameras inside the village to get to the bottom of it. Moreover, a group of policemen have also been stationed in the village to keep a watch on the situation.
