Crorepati DFO held for amassing disproportionate assets

Berhampur: Acting on the allegation of amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income, Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested Ghumusar DFO (south forest division) Bijay Ketan Acharya.

The anti-corruption agency also recovered illegal assets worth Rs 3.22 crore from the possession of Acharya. He was arrested after the vigilance officials conducted simultaneous raids on his office and residences on June 23.

Special teams of Vigilance led by SP Mayadhar Swain had raided Acharya’s government quarter and office at Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district, his ancestral house at Andarpur in Cuttack, Patia and Sahid Nagar areas in Bhubaneswar.

Sources said that the vigilance officials during the raid had detected moveable and immovable properties worth Rs 3,51,02,731 and other important documents from the possession of Acharya and his family.

One gold biscuit was also found from Acharya’s locker of Canara Bank.
