Balugaon: A woman was killed and her husband sustained critical injury after two bike-borne miscreants attacked the couple near Saralsingh level crossing under Balugaon police limits in Khurda district today and robbed jewelleries worth lakhs.
The victim couple has been identified as Bhimsen Padhi and his wife Tuni Padhi of Gopinathpur area.
The attack took place while the couple was returning home on a bike after shopping gold jewelleries worth lakhs from the Balugaon Bazar this morning. A group of two Pulsar-borne miscreants chased and intercepted them near the level crossing and resorted to blank firing, with an intension of loot. They also kicked the bike causing Bhimsen to loose balance and fell off it along with Tuni. Later on the miscreant duo fled the spot snatching the jewellery bag.
Tuni sustained critical head injury in the attack and was rushed along with her husband to Balugaon CHC where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police has reached the spot and started investigation.
