labourerBalangir: In a major success against illegal migrant labourer racket in the district, Turekela police rescued 37 workers from Turekela Railway Station today. They were being trafficked to neighbouring states illegally, by a broker.

The rescued labourers include 7 minors and a good number of women.

A team of policemen under Turekela IIC raided the railway station this morning after getting specific information on the labourer trafficking. Another police team under Kantabanji SDPO assisted in the raid. However, the illegal labourer broker involved in the trafficking managed to give police a slip during the raid.

Police said the rescued labourers were being trafficked to Andhra Pradesh and Telengana states. The escaped broker was operating in the area without a valid license and a manhunt has been launched to trace him, they added.
