Dispute over cremation sparks tension between two villages in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: Dispute over cremation ground sparked tension between two villages in Khandapada village yesterday and performing of last right of a local was delayed by 12 hours.

As per the report, one Madi Rout of Muraripur under same police limits had died last morning and his family members reached a cremation ground located on the outskirts of the village later in the day. But ahead of the performing of the last rites a group of people from Patharadwara reached the venue and prevented the performing of last rites claiming their sole right over the place.

A verbal duel erupted between the two sides as some people from Patharadwara even threw the wood brought to the ground for cremation. Subsequently, the relatives of the deceased blocked the Kantilo-Khandapada road protesting the act and demanding allocation of cremation ground for them.

Khandapada Tehsildar and IIC rushed to the spot later and tried to pacify the mob which went in vain.

A meeting between elders of two villages was held by the afternoon and the matter was mutually settled to allow the cremation.
