Balasore: Police arrested a differently abled youth from National Highway-16 in the district on Tuesday after he managed to steal a bus from Kanthi bus stand and drove several kilometres before getting detained by toll gate staffs.
The accused has been identified as Gourang Sahoo.
Police said, Gourang managed to open the locks of the sleeper coach bus namely ‘Jhadeswar’ (Registration No.OD 01 S 9691) which had been parked at the Kanthi bus stand this morning with the help of duplicate keys and drove it away towards Bhadrak. However, some toll collection staff at the Shergarh toll gate intercepted the bus the accused was driving and asked him for road tax which he declined to pay. After a verbal duel ensued between the accused and a toll collector and the latter called up police.
The accused was caught with the stolen bus after Shergarh Police reached the spot and made an inquiry. He was also found to be a differently abled man during interrogation.
An investigation is underway to find under what circumstances the differently abled tried to steal the bus.
