Rourkela: Kaimati Sarpanch and Dhenkanal district Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) President Mitanjali Swain was killed after being hit by a truck at Rangila Square near Deogaon village under Raghunathpalli Police Station here late last night.
Mitanjali was heading to her paternal home in Rourkela when the mishap took place. The auto-rickshaw which she boarded from the Rourkela Railway Station along with her father, mother and minor child was struck by a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction at Rangila Square. The woman Sarpanch sustained critical head injury and died on the spot.
The victim’s father, mother and child also sustained critical injury in the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital following the incident.
Mitanjali remained a member of the Orissa High Court Bar Association till her death.
Party men, relatives and well-wishers have condoled the untimely demise of the BJD leader.
