Dhenkanal Child pornography case: CBI arrests Surendra Nayak, to take him on remand

Dhenkanal: In the Child pornography case of Dhenkanal in Odisha, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Surendra Nayak, the accused who had uploaded the child pornography link in the porn website. It is to be noted that CBI officials had visited the accused’s house yesterday for probe when they had been attacked by the irate locals.

As per reports, CBI arrested Surendra Nayak from Dhenkanal. The Bureau had applied to take him on transit remand. CBI had prayed for 5 days remand. However, the Special CBI Court has allowed for 3 days’ remand. Accordingly, CBI will take the accused to Delhi on remand. It was informed by Amrit Das, counsel for the accused.

It is to be noted that the irate mob had reportedly attacked the CBI officials on Tuesday when they had gone to the place of Surendra to probe his pornography link. However, Town Police rushed to the spot and rescued the officials from the clutch of the irate mob. The incident had taken place at Dhenkanal’s Jublee town area.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had conducted raids on Tuesday at around 76 locations across India in 14 States and union territories over online child abuse including in Bhadrak, Jajapur, Dhenkanal of Odisha.

The agency had registered 23 separate cases on November 14, against total 83 accused on the allegations related to Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation.

The raids were carried out at around 76 locations, including Tirupati, Kanekal (Andhra Pradesh); Delhi; Konch Jalaun, Mau, Chandauli, Varansi, Ghazipur, Siddharthanagar, Moradabad, Noida, Jhansi, Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh); Junagarh, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar (Gujarat); Sangroor, Malerkotla, Hoshiarpur, Patiala (Punjab); Patna, Siwan (Bihar); Yamuna Nagar, Panipat, Sirsa, Hisar (Haryana); Bhadrak, Jajapur, Dhenkanal (Odisha); Tiruvalure, Coimbatore, Namkkal, Salem, Tiruvannamalai (Tamil Nadu); Ajmer, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur (Rajasthan); Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh); Jalgaon, Salwad, Dhule (Maharashtra); Korba (Chhattisgarh); and Solan (Himachal Pradesh).

The cases were registered based on a source-based information that a syndicate of individuals based in different parts of India and foreign countries is indulging in circulating, storing and viewing Child Sexual Exploitation Material (CSEM) using various social media platforms and groups.

According to the FIR, there was information that 31 members of the aforementioned group were sharing CSEM content in connivance with each other.

As per the initial information collected, there were more than 50 groups having over 5,000 offenders sharing child sexual abuse material. Many of these groups also had the involvement of foreign nationals.
