New Delhi: Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan along with 40 newly-elected Rajya Sabha MPs including Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Prakash Javadekar and Jagat Prakash Nadda took oath on Tuesday. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu administered the oath of secrecy to them.

After taking oath, the newly elected Rajya Sabha Parliamentarians walked up to Venkaiah Naidu who warmly welcomed them with a hand shake. Thereafter, they signed the members’ register and greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other senior ministers and opposition leaders present in the House.

“Honored to take oath as a #RajyaSabha member today. I thank Hon. PM @narendramodi Ji & @BJP4India President Shri @AmitShah Ji for their faith in me & pledge to carry out my duties with complete devotion & servitude towards the nation,” said Dharmendra Pradhan on his twitter handle.

Notably, Dharmendra was elected unopposed to the Upper House of the Parliament from Madhya Pradesh on March 15. Besides Pradhan, Union minister Thawar Chand Gehlot, Ajay Pratap Singh and Mr Kaialsh Soni (all BJP) and Congress candidate Rajmani Patel were declared as the winners.

Pradhan, who previously went to the Upper House from Bihar, is the first politician from Odisha to have been elected to Rajya Sabha from outside the state.

The saffron leader was a Member of 14th Lok Sabha from Deogarh constituency. He was also an MLA from Pallahara Assembly segment from 2000-2004.
