Devotees light 10,000 lamps near Lingaraj temple demanding withdrawal of NMA By-laws on Ekamra Kshetra temples: Watch

Bhubaneswar: Huge number of devotees including women lighted about 10,000 earthen lamps near Lingaraj temple here demanding withdrawal of the National Monuments Authority (NMA) drafted by-laws that restricts several on-going developmental works around the Ekamra Kshetra. Especially the said by-law would affect the developmental works around Ananta Basudev temple and Brahmeswar temple.

The devotees including residents of the capital city, sebayats and their family members lighted the lamps on all sides of Lingaraj temple on Friday evening. They said to press that at a time when many developmental works are going on around Ekamra Kshetra, this by-law will be a hurdle on its way. Hence, it should be withdrawn immediately.

It is to be noted that recently, the state government has acquired lands and properties for strengthening safety and security of the centuries old Shrine and also beautification of the peripheral areas for the projects under Ekamra Development Plan. However, the NMA draft draft rules prohibit construction works around the Temples.
