Devotees defy ‘Queue system’ at Puri Jagannath temple

Puri: Hundreds of devotees were seen defying the ‘Queue system’ for darshan of deities at the world famous Jagannath temple here on Monday morning. The queue stem has been implemented on an experimental basis from today.

Some members of Jagannath Sena also protested the new arrangements and uprooted the railings and barricades installed on the ‘Baisi Pahacha’ of the temple.

On being informed, District collector Jyoti Prakash Das reached the spot and took stock of the situation. He urged the devotees to follow the rules and reiterated that the new arrangements have been introduced on an experimental basis.

The collector also said, the temple administration is open to discuss about the new arrangements adding that it will take appropriate action for smooth darshan of devotees.

As per the new system, devotees will form a queue at the Singhadwara and move inside the temple through barricades. After having darshan, they will exit through the Uttaradwara. There will be separate barricades for men and women.
