Deputy Forest Range Officer held for taking bribe in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Tightening the noose around the necks of corrupt officials in the district, Vigilance sleuths today arrested a Deputy Forest Range Officer in Bargarh district while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from a person.

The accused has been identified as Dhruba Charan Behera, Deputy Forest Range Officer, Nrusinghanath, Bargarh.

As per the report, one Raj Kumar Chalan, son of a retired forester from Goimundi village in Khariar police limits in Nuapada had lodged a Vigilance complaint against Behera a few days back. In his complaint to Sambalpur Police, Chalan had accused the official of demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 to issue a no due certificate, which was needed for sanctioning of his father’s pension.

Acting upon the complaint today, a team of anti-corruption wing officials led a trap and nabbed the accused officials red-handed at his residence while accepting the bribe from Chalan.

Further investigation is underway in the incident.
