Depression intensified into deep depression over northwest BoB, Heavy rain expected in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The depression has intensified into a deep depression and lay centred over northwest Bay of Bengal close to southeast of Chandbali at 5.30 am this morning. It has moved west-northwestwards and crossed north Odisha coast, close to south of Chandbali between 5.30 am and 6.30 am. It lay centred over north coastal Odisha close to Chandbali at 6.30 am as a deep depression.

Reportedly, it would move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually into a depression during next 24 hrs.

Meanwhile, a red warning has been issued to eight districts of Odisha. Moderate rain and thundershowers with one or two very intense spells of rain very likely to affect parts of Puri, Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Kendrapara districts within next three hours.

It has been advised to avoid movement in affected areas as there is a possibility of flash floods/ water logging in low lying areas. There might be reduction in visibility causing traffic congestion in city areas.

Whereas, a warning has been issue to another eight districts of Odisha where rain and thundershower with one or two intense spells likely to affect some parts of districts of Khordha (including Bhubaneswar city), Boudh, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal,Angul, Jajpur and Boudh within next three hours.

People are advised to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.

The rainfall from 8.30 am of September 12 to 7.30 am of September 13 has been recorded as 341 mm in Puri, 219 mm in Paradeep, 195 mm in Bhubaneswar, 64 mm in Gopalpur, 46 mm in Chandbali and 24 mm in Balasore, added reports.
