Depression in Bay of Bengal intensifies, Heavy Rainfall lashes across state

Bhubaneswar: A depression has intensified in the Northern Bay of Bengal. Heavy rainfall lashed across Odisha and West Bengal since Thursday night.

The Regional Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Odisha and West Bengal for Friday and Saturday. Both the neighbouring states will receive very heavy rainfall for the next two days.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall was witnessed in Northern and Coastal parts of Odisha. Baripada received the highest of 131.7 mm. Other places to receive heavy rainfall were Balasore, Chandabali, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri, Sambalpur, Talcher, Angul among others.

The Regional Meteorological Department also informed that another depression is building in Northern Bay of Bengal. The depression will probably build by July 31.

The effects will be felt across Coastal Odisha. The wind speed will touch 50-70 kmph as heavy rainfall will lash across the state. The department has also issued an advisory for the fishermen. They have been asked to stay away from water during this time period.
