Puri: At least 25 passengers were left in a lurch after a ferry boat carrying them got stuck off the coast of Chilika due to dense fog on Friday.
The incident took place early in the morning while the group of passengers were on their way to Jahnikuda area from Satapada boat yard. After sailing around 5 Kilometres into the lake, the helmsman failed to detect the direction and chose to halt the vessel off the coast.
The passengers were rescued after 30 minutes with the help of a rescue boat which reached the spot from Satapada after the fog thinned and receded.
The passengers were returning after visiting the Chilika Mahotsav which is currently underway. At least 10-15 bikes were also on the ferry when the incident took place.
