Delta Plus Variant in Odisha: Dont be panic, but need to take precaution says ILS Director

Bhubaneswar: After Central Government informed about one case of Delta Plus variant of Covid-19 detected in Odisha, Director of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Dr Ajay Parida, said that there is no need to panic, there is no cause for concern in the State as of now.

Of the 3000-3500 samples collected from four States-Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar, only one mutation(Delta plus) has been found in Deogarh district of Odisha. If it was highly contagious, then we must have found number of variants of the same strain since April to till date,” he said.

ILS has conducted genome sequencing of around 46,000 COVID-19 positive samples starting from January this year till date out of which around 1100 samples are from various districts of Odisha.

If the mutation had been severe, it would have spread since April. As no other case of the variant has been detected in the last two months, there is no need to panic.
