Death toll rises to 3 in Jharsuguda police van-truck crash

Sambalpur: The death toll in the police van-truck head-on crash which took place on NH-49 near Belpahar in Jharsuguda last week rose to three today, after another Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) jawan succumbed under treatment in VIMSAR of Burla.

The deceased has been identified as Biprab Sahu, a resident of Gajapati district.

Sahu who was under treatment at VIMSAR since the accident didn’t show any improvement and passed away this morning, informed the hospital source.

Notably, the van-truck crash took place at 6.30 am on March 1, while the jawans were en-route to Banharpali to get deployed for CM Naveen Patnaik’s scheduled visit to OPGC. The accident which took place right in front of a petrol pump in Belpahar left two cops namely Prasant Behera and Shankar Prasad Panth.

30 other policemen who had sustained injuries in the mishap were later sent to Burla and Bhubaneswar.
