Puri: Devotees have been restricted for darshan at Jagannath Temple here for four hours today – from 5 PM to 9 PM – in view of secret ritual ‘Banaka Lagi’. This was informed by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
The Banaka Lagi is a ritual in which servitors like Datta Mohapatra from Chhatisha Niyog apply fresh organic colours on the idols.
After completion of the second rituals at Bhoga-Mandap, the Daitapatis and temple servitors will conduct the secret ritual inside the closed premises of the temple during the shutdown period.
The make-up ritual, which takes about five to six hours, is conducted about seven to eight times in a year.
