DamaBhubaneswar: Hours after proposing for a BJD-Congress alliance in the state to keep BJP at bay, senior BJD leader and State Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout took an apparent U-turn on Tuesday and dubbed it as his personal opinion.

Talking to Kalinga TV over the issue, Dama clarified that BJD is in a strong position in the state and necessarily not need an alliance with any party to win the polls. Dubbing the BJP to be a communal party, he insisted that it is the party high command Naveen who will take the final call on the alliance.

Delving into the national politics and launching a scathing attack against the Modi government, Dama said, under the saffron party the federal structure of the country is at stake. All non-BJP parties should come together to defeat the communal forces, he opined.

Earlier in the day, reacting to Dama’s alliance statement of Monday, senior BJD leader Rabi Nanda also claimed the former’s view to be a personal one and said Naveen had always maintained an equal distance from both BJP and Congress. However he supported Dama’s claim of BJP to be a communal party and emphasised the need to stop its progress.

However, Congress leader Debasish Patnaik while reacting to Dama’s statement claimed that the latter is not a leader of that stature in BJD to talk on alliance. The statement could have been of value if Naveen had given it, he said.
