Cyclonic Storm ‘DAYE’ Crosses Odisha Coast

Berhampur: Cyclonic storm ‘DAYE’ crossed the coast near Gopalpur in Ganjam district of Odisha late last night, triggering heavy rainfall in many parts of the state.

The cyclonic storm “DAYE” over northwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of about 23 kmph and crossed south Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coast close to Gopalpur during 12.30 AM to 01.30 AM, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, H R Biswas said.

The cyclonic storm continued to move west-northwestwards and weakened gradually into a deep depression during early this morning, he added.

Chief Minister Naveen Patanaik directed Puri and Ganjam district administration to carry out evacuation from vulnerable and low-lying areas.

Patnaik also issued direction for cancelling holiday of all government employees in Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh and Khurda districts today in view of heavy cyclonic rain.
