Bhubaneswar: As cyclone ‘Titli’ over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm today and moving towards the coast, Odisha government, apart from beginning evacuation of people in five coastal districts, issued a series of warnings and advisory for the people to follow before, during and after the storm.
Cyclone ‘Titli’ is likely to make a landfall at about 5.30 am Thursday.
Before the cyclone
- Ignore rumours. Stay calm, don’t panic
- Keep your mobile phones charged to ensure connectivity’ use SMS
- Listen to radio, watch TV, read newspapers for weather updates
- Prepare an emergency kit with essential items for safety and survival
- Secure your house, carry out repairs. Don’t leave sharp objects loose
- Untie cattle/animals them to ensure their safety
During & After Cyclone
If you’re indoors
- Switch off electrical mains, gas supply
- Keep doors and windows shut
- If your house is unsafe, leave early before the onset of the cyclone
- Listen to radio/transistor
- Drink boiled/chlorinated water
- Rely only on official warnings
If you’re outdoors
- Don’t enter damaged buildings
- Watch out for broken electric poles and wires, other sharp objects
- Seek a safe shelter as soon as possible
For Fishermen
- Keep a radio set with extra batteries handy
- Keep boats or rafts tied up in a safe place
- Don’t venture out in the sea
