Cyclone ‘Titli’ Aftermath: Students’ Union elections cancelled in Odisha colleges

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the severe cyclonic storm ‘Titli’ which wreaked havoc in several districts of Odisha last Thursday, the Higher Education Department has cancelled the Students’ Union polls in colleges in the state for this year.

The college elections for the academic session 2018-19 were earlier scheduled to be held on October 11 from 8 am to 2 pm.

Notably, the department had earlier postponed the polls and announced closure of all colleges on October 11 and 12 in view of the approaching cyclone.

Cyclone ‘Titli’ made a landfall between 4.30 and 5.30 am in south-west coast of Gopalpur near Palasa in Andhra Pradesh with an estimated maximum sustained surface wind speed of 140-150 kmph gusting to 165 kmph on October 11.
