Cyclone Fani: Rainfall to lash across Odisha from tomorrow

Bhubaneswar:  India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for May 3 and 4 for various districts across Odisha.

Alert for May 3 has been issued for 17 districts- Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Balasore, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. These districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Similarly, Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive very heavy rainfall.

Furthermore, a red alert has also been issued for Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Balasore, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj for May 4. These districts will receive very heavy rainfall.

Gusty wind is set to touch 150-170 kmph in Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts. Meanwhile, in Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack, Jajpur, Khurda, and Gajapati districts wind speed will touch 110-120 kmph. Similarly, in Nayagarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal districts wind speed is expected to touch 80-90 kmph.

In view of the risk that cyclone Fani poses, the Odisha Government has declared that all educational institutions to be shut down till further notice. Also, all examinations have been postponed as of now.
