Bhubaneswar: Honouring CM Naveen’s request, the Election Commission of India on Wednesday ordered the removal of the Model Code of Conduct from 11 districts of Odisha as severe cyclonic storm Fani is about to make landfall on Odisha’s coast on May 3.

The districts which will not have Model Code of Conduct for cyclone Fani are Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Khurda, Cuttack and Jajpur. Chief Election Officer stated in a letter that CM Naveen’s proposal was approved since the removal would ‘facilitate speedy rescue, relief, and restoration activities to successfully face cyclone Fani.’
