Cyclone Asani: Ganjam Collector Restricts People From Visiting Gopalpur Beach

Ganjam: The Ganjam District Administration has restricted the people from visiting Gopalpur and other sea beaches in the district for the next two days in view of severe cyclonic storm Asani.

Reportedly, the people have been asked not to visit the sea beaches today and tomorrow. Danger signal 3 has been issued for Gopalpur port.

Similarly, danger signal 2 has been issued for Puri, Chandbali, Dhamra, and Paradip ports.

The Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Asani’ over Westcentral and adjoining the southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 5 kmph during the past six hours, informed Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar.

It is very likely to move nearly northwestwards till 10th May night and reach West-central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh coast and adjoining Odisha coast. Thereafter, it is very likely to re-curve north-northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts.

Notably, it is likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 24 hours.

Rainfall Forecast and Warnings:

  • From 8.30 am of May 10 to 8.30 am of May 11- A yellow warning has been issued as heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri.
  • From 8.30 am of May 11 to 8.30 am of May 12- A yellow warning has been issued as heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Khorda,Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.
  • From 8.30 am of May 12 to 8.30 am of May 13- A yellow warning has been issued as heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore.
