Congress leader Mohammed Moquim gets bail

Cuttack: Hours after his arrest for ransacking Purighat police station during the Bharat bandh on September 10, Cuttack district Congress president Mohammed Moquim and 16 party workers were granted interim bail by the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) here on Thursday.

The SDJM court has directed all of them to appear before it for the next hearing after 5 days.

Based on the CCTV footage, Purighat police had raided the houses of Congress workers last night and picked them up for allegedly ransacking the police station.

Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh had said that the Congress workers on Tuesday stormed into the police station and vandalised the properties following detention of a party worker, who barged into Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) office during Bharat bandh.

Purighat police had registered a case (149/18) under Sections 147, 148, 342, 450, 395, 332, 427, 354, 294, 506, 149 of the IPC, Section 7 of Criminal Law Amendment Act 1932 and Section 3 of  Prevention of Damage To Public Property Act 1984 in this regard.
