Cuttack: Court awards life imprisonment to man for raping minor girl, directs to pay Rs 7 lakh compensation
Cuttack: The Special POCSO Court in Cuttack today awarded life imprisonment to a man for raping a minor girl in Tangi area of Khurda district in 2019. The convict has been identified as Khokan Maiti of Medinipur in West Bengal.
The Court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 and directed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) to provide compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the family members of the survivor.
It is to be noted here that Khokan Maiti was staying at a rented house in the Tangi area while the minor girl was also living on another floor of the house. However, Khokan raped the minor taking the advantage of the absence of her parents.
He then kidnapped her after the girl’s mother came to know about the matter. Later, a case was filed against him in October, 2019. Based on the complaint, Tangi police had launched an investigation and arrested Khokon from Kolkata.
The court today convicted him after hearing the statements of 11 eyewitnesses and based on 18 proofs, informed the government pleader Ramesh Mahanty.
