Curfew revoked from all areas of Sambalpur town

The district administration of Sambalpur has lifted curfews from the entire town as the situation has returned to its normalcy.

Sambalpur: The district administration of Sambalpur has lifted curfews from the entire town as the situation has returned to its normalcy after over half a month since the curfew was imposed on April 14. The restriction has been completely removed from the area under six police stations in the town.

The curfew was revoked after the law and order situation normalized in the town, said Sambalpur SP B. Gangadhar. Though, the curfew has been revoked, restrictions on meeting and rally still remains in force. No meeting or rally can be organised without written permission from district administration.

The curfew was imposed in the town after communal clashes erupted on April 12 in which 15, including 10 police personnel, were injured in stone pelting in the town during a bike rally on Hanuman Jayanti. A large number of shops and business establishments were also set on fire by mischief mongers during the violence.

The curfew was imposed in areas under six police stations. Initially, the curfew was relaxed in some areas after the situation calmed down after the restrictions.

The police have so far arrested nearly 100 people. On the other hand, a total of 16 people were arrested for posting objectionable articles on social media and were freed on production of undertaking.
