Crocodile Census: Bhitarkanika to remain closed for visitors till January 4

Kendrapara: In view of the scheduled estuarine crocodile and migratory bird census, the Bhitarkanika National Park will remain closed from December 26 to January 4 for visitors.

The tourists planning for a visit to the park have been advised to schedule the same accordingly. The move has been taken as boating by tourists could disturb the crocodile resulting in trouble in the census process, informed Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) to media.

A total of 23 teams of forest officials and experts have been formed to carry out the census process. While 12 teams will be engaged on duty at Bhitarkanika National Park, 2 each will be sent to Gahirmatha and Mahakalapada ranges. Similarly, 7 teams will count the reptiles under Rajanagar range.
