Critical after ragging, JNV student admitted to MKCG

ragging in JNVBerhampur: In yet another case of ragging in the state, a student of Tudipaju Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalaya (JNV) in Kandhamal district has turned critical after being physically assaulted by senior students on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Ritesh Kumar Sahoo, a Class IX student of the school.

The incident came to light this morning after the victim was rushed to the Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) medical college and hospital by his family members. He was admitted to the Orthopaedics department of the hospital.

According to the family members of Ritesh, some senior students in the JNV, Tudipaju were regularly torturing him. The accused were forcing him to wash their clothes and dishes every day. Whenever the victim declined to obey their orders, they meted out brutal punishment to him.  In one such assault, Ritesh was grievously injured on Thursday. Apart from sustaining injuries on his waist, the victim got his eardrums ruptured in the incident, the family members added.

On being asked whether they took the matter to the notice of the school authorities, the family members of the victim said all their complaints had fallen on deaf ears. They have also claimed that the school authorities are trying to sweep the issue under the carpet.
