Criminal injured in police encounter in Ganjam, 2 cops hurt

Bhanjanagar: A youth who was wanted in a firing case was nabbed during a police encounter in Charimaili Chhak near Pandiapathar village under Aska police limits in Ganjam district on Monday.

As per the report, Aska Police got a tip-off on the presence of P Sibasankar Dora (32) alias Tingiri along with an aide near Charimaili Chhak early in the morning and launched a raid. During the raid Dora who was riding a motorcycle opened fire at police leaving at least two cops hurt.

As cops returned fire at the criminal duo in the exercise of their right to defence, Dora was struck with a bullet on his left leg and fell off the bike. He was taken into custody subsequently.

Police also seized the motorcycle used by the held accused along with a pistol, two live bullets from the accused’s possession.

Dora’s aide managed to flee from the spot during the raid.

The accused was rushed to Aska hospital and then shifted to MKCG Medical in Berhampur for treatment after the arrest.

Notably on Diwali evening yesterday, Dora had fired at one Balaram Sethy of Pandiapathar village over past rivalry and remained at large since then.
