Bhubaneswar: The Covid vaccines will act as a protective shield against the new Omicron variant of coronavirus, said Director of Health & Family Welfare Bijay Panigrahi.

Reportedly, the health department has urged everybody to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Even if the vaccines do not provide 100 percent protection against the new Covid variant, it will still act as a shield.

The vaccination will reduce the risk of serious illness, hospitalization, and death due to the deadly virus.

The health department has also said that the representatives in all the village areas have been asked to encourage the locals to get vaccinated with both doses soon.

The infection rate, as well as the number of Omicron cases, in other states of India, has been rising with time. Hence, the public needs to get fully vaccinated.

The task forces in all the districts have been investigating to check on the people who have not yet received a single dose Covid vaccine till now. The Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) have also been instructed to identify people who have not been vaccinated in the villages.

Those who have not yet been vaccinated till now, will be soon infected by the virus and eventually will spread the virus among others.

As many as 4,62,00,000 doses of Covid vaccine have been given in Odisha till now including 87.4 lakh first dose, added Bijay Panigrahi. About 40 lakhs of people are yet to receive the Covid vaccines.
