Covid Vaccination For Citizens Aged 45 And Above To Commence From April 1

Bhubaneswar: The District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and Chief District Medical Office (CDMO) have been directed by Additional Chief Secretary of Health and Family Welfare department Pradipta Mohapatra on Tuesday to prioritize high risk groups among citizens of 45 years and above for COVID-19 vaccination from April 1.

The health department has categorized street vendors, meat/fish sellers, auto / bus drivers, school /college teachers, salon/ barber shop workers, security guards, restaurant staff and priests of all religious institutions as the high risk group. As these people come in contact with many people every day hence they are at risk of contracting Covid infection, added Pradipta Mohapatra.

The state government has instructed all employees of the Lok Seva Bhawan, aged between 45 and 59, to be vaccinated. Wearing masks and maintaining social distance shall be stricter as before.

The target is to vaccinate 2 lakh people in each district every day from April 1. The vaccination will also be held on government holidays such as April 1 (Utkal Divas) and April 2 (Good Friday).

The state has so far vaccinated 23,26,914 people, out of which 13,41,457 people over the age of 40 years have been vaccinated.
