Bhubaneswar: The Covid vaccination drive of children aged 15-18 years began across the country today on January 3, 2022, for which the registration had already begun on January 1.

Reportedly, around 939 special vaccination centres have been set up in Odisha for the children’s vaccination drive. The Odisha government has aimed to complete the process of vaccinating teenagers with the first dose in a month.

The children who were born before January 1, 2007, are eligible to take the COVID-19 vaccine doses. They can take the second dose between 18 to 40 days after the first dose.

On the first day of the vaccination drive, as many as 250 vaccines will be given at each centre. The children will be taking doses of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin Covid vaccine.

The beneficiaries can register themselves online through an existing account on Co-WIN or can also register by creating a new account through a unique mobile number. The facility is available for all eligible citizens currently. Children can also register offline by the vaccinator in facilitated registration mode. The slots can be booked online or walk-in process.

Currently, there are 15 lakh Covid vaccines available with the State. Almost 23 lakh children of Odisha will be vaccinated, said reports.

Earlier on January 2 during a high-level virtual meeting held between the Health and School and Mass Education Departments of Odisha, it has been decided that the Covid vaccination for Class 10 and Class 12 students will be delayed in the State as they are having examinations. As per the decision taken during the meeting, the class 10 students can take their first dose of COVID vaccine after January 8 while the class 12 students can take the vaccine jab after January 11. Hence, the students of 9th and 11th will be vaccinated first.

It is to be noted that the students who have been infected with the Covid virus recently, will be receiving the Covaxin dose after three months.
