COVID-19: Odd-even scheme for public transport in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, March 20 (IANS) The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation in Odisha has announced an odd-even scheme for public transport including buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws to restrict traffic during the coronavirus outbreak.

But there will be no bar on private vehicles, government vehicles and vehicles hired by hospitals.

    What about social distancing, earlier if 10 buses would have taken 20 passengers now the same number of people would now be distributed in 5 buses. I think this is not at all well thought off.
    The chance of exposure increases also as people would now have to wait more for public transport at bus stand etc. Here 3 aspects have been not taken into account. 1) density of people would be more in the modes of transport available as the option available is half. 2) People should be allowed less time outside for exposure… As the number of public transport has become half frequency of these would also be half, which means more time for exposure.
    3) People may loose jobs or earning, drivers required would be half, so if someone has 2 public vehicles one odd numbered another even, he would just need one driver
