Court extends Abhijit Iyer Mitra’s judicial custody

Bhubaneswar: In a major jolt for the arrested journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra, the Jharpara Jail camp court extended his judicial custody on Tuesday.

According to reports, the Jharpara Jail camp court reserved verdict on hearing of Abhijit’s bail plea and extended his judicial custody by 14 more days.

Notably, Odisha police had arrested Abhijit on October 23 for his derogatory remarks against Odisha and Konark Sun Temple. He was arrested in connection with a case filed at Sahid Nagar Police Station under sections 294, 295A, 153A, 500, 506 of IPC and section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

The controversial scribe has been lodged in Jharpara jail post his arrest. Konark Police had taken him on a four-day remand to question him over his offensive remarks.
